Brett Whiteley
Meet the Artist
Brett Whiteley is an Australian artist that specializes on surrealism. Whiteley was born 1939 in Sydney, New South Wales, and grew up in Logueville, a harbor side suburb in north Sydney. He died on June 15, 1992, becuase he was overdosed of heroin and other drugs. He was all alone in a hotel room so nobody could call for help, but he did have a good childhood. He started to draw when he was a teenager. He attended the Scots school and college. He would paint on weekends at Bathurst and Sydney. He got a traveling art scholarship and traveled extensively around the world.
